About us

Konverse Dance Crews (KDC) began in September 2012 when founder Elvire Mavusi Matu, then just 14 years old, started leading dance sessions through The Salvation Army in Barking. Recognising her passion and leadership potential, The Salvation Army supported the development of the programme, which quickly grew into a thriving community dance initiative.

Established to provide a safe and positive space for young people to express themselves through dance, KDC now offers classes for children, young people, and adults aged 19+. Over the past 14 years, we have engaged more than 1,100 young people and adults across the UK, helping participants build confidence, improve their physical wellbeing, develop discipline, and foster respect for themselves and others.

In 2018, the programme was formally established under the name Konverse Dance Crews, and in 2022 it became an independent organisation following its transition from a joint programme with The Salvation Army. We continue to maintain a positive relationship with The Salvation Army by training in their studio, which played a key role in supporting our early growth and community outreach.

Alongside dance training and performance opportunities, KDC actively encourages community engagement and volunteering. One example includes partnering with CleanupUK in 2015, where members of KDC Elite took part in a community litter-picking project across Barking and Dagenham before performing a dance piece to promote environmental awareness.

Today, Konverse Dance Crews remains committed to empowering young people and adults through dance, creativity, leadership, and employment opportunities, helping the next generation develop skills that extend far beyond the dance studio

As of October 2022 Konverse Dance Crews LTD is now operating independently.
